Welcome to Summer 1 in Year 5.
We hope that you and your families have all had a lovey break.
This is going to be a very busy term. Hopefully we will get some lovely weather and we will be able to make use of our school grounds.
In our maths lessons we will learn how to answer reasoning questions, alongside the skills that we cover in our curriculum. It is important that you practise the skills that you learn in school, in order to do this you can access MyMaths (at www.mymaths.co.uk/primary.html) or MathsWatch (at http://www.mathswatchvle.com/mathswatchprimary). You have your own password and Login details, which you have been given (if you cannot find it, please let one of the staff members know and we will print it out for you). Every week you will be set a piece of written maths homework, and in addition, there will be work for you to complete on MyMaths.
In English we will be learning all about The Amazing Amazon. What is life like for the people who live there, and the threats that they have to their way of life. The children will have a go at creating their own Amazon adventure story, and then join in with a class debate all about deforestation.
You will have one piece of English homework per week, along with a spelling activity. Remember to keep looking at our spelling list (a copy is at the bottom of this page).
In Design Technology we will be looking at, and examining, existing products.
In Science, we will be observing life cycles.
In Geography, we will go on an adventure to North and South America (not literally unfortunately!)
We would like to remind pupils that they should ensure they come to school each day with everything that they need (including packed lunches and P.E. kits).
If you have any concerns, or would just like a chat, please come and talk to one of the Year 5 staff.
Thank you for your support.
