Coco the School Dog
Meet Coco - Our Wonderful School Dog!
We are delighted to introduce Coco, our much-loved school dog and a very special member of our school family!
Coco is a Cockalier-poo ( a mix of Cocker Spaniel Cavalier King Charles and small poodle), carefully chosen from a reputable breeder who specialises in breeding dogs for therapy work. The breed is well known for its gentle, calm and affectionate temperament — qualities that Coco certainly demonstrates every day. Coco is also low-shedding and considered more allergy-friendly, making her particularly well suited to a school environment.
Coco is currently undertaking a rigorous training programme with PAWS Therapy Dog Training, helping her to develop the skills and behaviours needed to support children safely and effectively within a school environment. Her training is an ongoing process, and we are incredibly proud of the progress she is making.
As part of her role in school, Coco will be fully integrated into school life and support children in a variety of ways. Spending time in classrooms, with small groups and during 1:1 sessions, providing a calm and reassuring presence. For some children, simply having Coco nearby can help them to feel settled, confident and ready to engage with their learning.
But Coco isn't just a support dog - she has become quite the celebrity around school! Wherever she goes, she is greeted with huge smiles, enthusiastic hellos and plenty of affection. Children love spending time with her, and Coco has quickly become a familiar and cherished part of our school community.
When Coco isn't busy supporting our children at school, she lives at home with Miss Dewhurst, where she enjoys being part of the family and getting plenty of rest, cuddles and playtime. This gives Coco a lovely balance between her important role at school and her life as a much-loved family pet.
Her gentle presence brings joy, comfort and a little bit of extra happiness to the school day. We feel incredibly lucky to have her and look forward to seeing her continue to grow into her important role.
