At St Anne's our aim is for all pupils to develop positive attitudes towards physical activity and sport and to develop and adopt active lifestyles and habits which will remain with them their whole lives.

In Key Stages 1 and 2 children participate in two structured P.E. lessons per week.  Our teachers use the Lancashire Scheme of Work for Physical Education to help them plan exciting lessons which keep the children active and develop or enhance key skills.  The curriculum is structured so that children participate in a range of activities including gymnastics, athletics, dance, games (striking and fielding, invasion, net and wall) and outdoor and adventurous activities and learn the key principles which underpin each discipline.  Swimming is also taught by swimming teachers at Ormskirk Leisure Centre.

In addition to curriculum P.E. we are always striving to improve and enhance our provision for P.E. and School Sport and increase the opportunities available to all pupils to participate in additional physical activities.  We offer a variety of after school clubs and compete in a number of inter-school leagues and competitions throughout the year.  We always try our best to encourage as many children to be involved in competitive sport as possible and frequently enter 2 or 3 teams in local sports partnership leagues and events.

We also offer:

  • Year 6 the opportunity to attend Tower Wood Activity Centre for 3 days to participate in a range of outdoor and adventurous activities, develop their teamwork skills and improve their confidence and self-esteem.  This is always a rewarding, enjoyable and tiring residential course for both the pupils and staff – take a look at the photographs on the gallery page to see some of the activities we did last year.
  • Specialist coaching from external rugby coaches and coaches employed by West Lancashire Sports Partnership.
  • A wide range of after school activities.
  • KS2 children participate in a Dance Fever festival at the local secondary school.
